Covered California

PROBLEM:

All residents of the US have to carry at least a minimum level of health insurance or face a tax penalty.

The current health insurance government website makes plans hard to find, and necessary information painful to access.

As a basic need, this process should be made easier to every user.

PROTOTYPE

WHAT DID I FIND?

To find the personas for this case study, interviews were based on people who successfully purchased their healthcare plans on Covered California. Qualitative data and pain points were put together in affinity diagrams.

Two personas were found:

  1. Uninsured Medi-Cal users &

  2. Healthcare plans shoppers.

SOLUTION:

To make the key experience (getting health insurance
clear and easy to access.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Through competitive analysis and features that shorten the steps towards Medi-Cal information and healthcare plans. Designing for a more intuitive navigation starting from the core website's core, its information architecture.

COMPETITORS

What do these competitors have that Covered California doesn't?

  • Clear language and shorter forms to fill out in order to access healthcare plans.
  • Quick Medi-Cal and Medi-Care qualifying information.
  • Easy access to private healthcare plans.

FEATURE PRIORITIZATION

After analyzing competitors and the qualitative data in the interviews, I started the feature ideation process that would allow users to find the information and ideal plan.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE

Improving the site map was crucial for addressing the primary need of finding healthcare plans and Medi-Cal .
The user flow shows an effective and fluid navigation towards the plan and dashboard.

WIREFRAMES

Before prototyping, I created two iterations of wireframes to best serve the website's information architecture and shopping cart and Medi-Cal application process.
